Activity: Machine Sew Something
Now that you have the basics for machine sewing, let’s sew something. What you choose to sew depends on your needs and access to fabric. The classroom has a supply of fabric squares which can be sewn together to create patchwork panels (like 4 squares 2×2). Or you can use the squares to create a pouch for a cell phone (or other small electronic device). Or you can create a custom plushy.
- See an example of a patchwork cell phone case here.
- See an example of a plushy here.
- Another idea is to create your own tote bag.
This project has three criteria:
- Your sewn project must have at least 3 different, functional seams. This means the seams need to hold two pieces of fabric together; they’re not decorative.
- You must incorporate at least two different pieces of fabric.
- It must be a finished product.
When you are finished, take a picture of your project and upload it below. Remember, you must be logged in to be able to submit your project.
