Activity: Print Something

Time to actually print something! Follow these steps, and be sure to ask one of the instructors or one of your classmates for help when you need it!

  1. Select a printer. The only difference is the color and type of plastic loaded into each machine.
  2. Download a file. Using one of the class computers, head over to Thingiverse and download a file for a simple, pre-designed 3D item. (You can learn to design your own objects in other lessons.) Thingiverse is a website that allows anyone to upload and share their 3D designs. Some suggestions have been linked for you, but feel free to select any easy-to-print item. (Ask your instructor for recommendations if you’re not sure.)

    Some suggestions:
    Easy Print Kids Building Toys
    Bubble Wand
    Or find your own: Thingiverse
  3. Initialize the Printer. Attach the laptop to the printer’s USB cord. Reach behind the machine and flip the Power switch on the bottom right of the machine. Then, hold down the Initialize switch, located on the front left of the machine, until the machine beeps.
  4. Send your design to print. See the video below for step-by-step instructions:
  5. Take a picture of your printed object, and upload it below.

Remember, you must be logged in to be able to submit a picture of your printed object!
