Audacity and Sound Effects

Audio editing software comes with effects you can use to add echo, change the speed or pitch, reduce noises, and change the EQ. Audacity is a free, downloadable tool recommended for this project. We recommend using Audacity if you do not already have another, favorite audio editor. You’re of course free to use whatever tools and apps your comfortable with, but if you’re new to sound editing and mixing, Audacity is easy to learn with tons of YouTube videos to help.

LinkedinLearning has several full-courses on using Audacity, free for you as GSU students. Begin by clicking here and log in with your GSU CampusID and password. Watch the videos and follow the instructions in the Getting Started section. Watch any of the other videos in the LinkedIn Learning as needed.

Once you have downloaded Audacity and feel comfortable with the basic functions, watch the following video about creating sound effects in Audacity. The video moves very quickly, so you may have to rewatch certain sections. But, pay particular attention to how the video creators use Audacity and common household items to make sound effects.
