Practice Design Thinking: Define the Problem

4. Take a stand with a point-of-view (2-3 minutes)

Fill in the blanks in the following sentence, and then record the complete sentence in your Design Notebook:

[partner’s name] needs a way to [partner’s need]; [surprisingly, because, but] [insight].

  • This is your point of view.
  • Take a stand by specifically stating the meaningful challenge you are going to take on.
  • It should feel like a problem worth tackling.

Example: Maybe you found out that the biggest challenge isn’t arriving to class on time, but how classes are scheduled in the first place. Or maybe you both share the same recurring problem.

You may create a sentence that reads “My partner needs a way to know where the closest available parking is as she gets close to the building so she can arrive to class on time, but she can’t look at maps in her car while she’s driving.”
