Practice Design Thinking: Generate Ideas (Ideate)

5. Sketch to Ideate (4-5 minutes)

  • On a new page in your Design Notebook, rewrite the problem statement from step 4.
  • Independently, sketch at least 5 radical ways to meet your partner’s needs.
  • Go for as many as you can and don’t worry about your artistic ability.

6. Share solutions and capture feedback (10 minutes)

  • After sharing your ideas with your partner, listen to your partner’s feedback.
  • Fight the urge to defend your ideas. This is not about validation.
  • This is an opportunity to learn more about your partner’s feelings and motivations.

Record your notes in your Design Journal

7. Reflect & generate a new solution (3-4 minutes)

Consider what you have learned about your partner and your solutions. From this new understanding, create a new idea and record it in your Design Journal. The idea can be a variation on an earlier idea or something totally new.
