The Topic
The best digital stories tell a story that hooks the viewer and evokes some kind of emotion in the viewer. They can be personal stories, or they can be slices of real-life events that have happened to others. They are (usually) not fiction.
There should be some kind of causality in the story, as opposed to the “and then, and then, and then”-style listing of random episode “stories” that young children love to tell (they’re incredibly endearing, but aren’t exactly compelling for broader audiences).
Ask yourself: What’s the point? Why does this story exist? What is this meant to evoke in its audience?
Your story should have a beginning, middle, and, end. It should have a reason to exist. And remember, the script should only be around 1/2 – 3/4 pages typed (double-spaced, 12 point font). Don’t forget that you have the soundtrack and the visuals to help carry the weight of the story in addition to the words.
