Using Bambu P1S and Bambu Studio
You’ll probably use the Bambu P1S printer for all of your 3D printing in this course.
The basic workflow for 3D printing is the following:
- First you either design or download a 3D design. These designs will usually have the file extension .stl, and are commonly called STL files (the same way we often call documents PDFs).
- Then, you open the STL in a piece of slicer software. The basic function of a slicer software is to slice the 3D design into layers, that it can then send to the 3D printer. It is at this stage when you can make some changes to your 3D design, such as orientation of the design, scale of the design, and various 3D printer settings. The slicer software that we use in this classroom is called Bambu Studio.
- Lastly, you send the design from the slicer (Bambu Studio) to the 3D printer. The Bambu P1S printers are connected wirelessly to the classroom computers, so usually all you’ll need to do is make sure the printer you want to use is turned on, then you send the design to the printer from the Bambu Studio software.
